“When we treat children's play as seriously as it deserves, we are helping them feel the joy that's to be found in the creative spirit. It's the things we play with and the people who help us play that make a great difference in our lives.”
― Fred Rogers
Very interesting. I love the photos and revelation of the poetry that was left on the walls of the buildings. I had no idea the things that went on in our country at that time!!
I can't recommend this book. Way too disjointed and bizzare for my taste. I really don't think it is appropriate for young teens. Images are very disturbing and it ends with no hope at all. VERY DARK and violent images. Goes beyond creepy. :-(
I really liked the ghost story aspect and the sensitivity of the main character Siena to what goes on around her. I am not sure I liked that it insinuated she may have been the cause of her brothers silence, but I did like the resolution and the hopefulness of fixing something broken with tenderness and bravery.
Interesting plot line. Gypsies, not Jews are featured in this WWII era novel. I liked the way that the author used the making of the film to explain how some of the gypsy extras were involved. I always like a bit more hope at the end. It felt like it stopped too quickly...but I guess that is typical of that genre.
So hard to talk about. I love the themes of this series and I completely get the sacrificial love that Tris shows, BUT... Where is my happy ending?!?!?!?!!? This just broke my heart and I guess because it ends with so much greiving it really brings me down. Makes me re-live my own grief. It is so real to life when Christina says "Yeah, sometimes life really sucks," she says. "But you know what I'm holding on for?"..."The moments that don't suck" she says. "The trick is to notice them when they come around." I will be looking for some happy endings that don't suck in whatever book I read next...:-(
